Nahareka, 15–17 June 2026, Fokupers, in partnership with the Gabinete de Apoio à Sociedade Civil (GASC), conducted Training on Gender Based Violence (GBV) Referral Network Mechanism to the leadership structure of Nahareka Village, Ossu Administrative Post, Viqueque Municipality.

The three-day training was attended by 25 participants (7 women and 18 men), who are part of the leadership structure of Nahareka Village. This activity aims to strengthen the capacity of community leaders and service providers to identify, respond, and refer cases of Gender Based Violence safely and appropriately, while strengthening GBV prevention and response efforts at the community level.

During the training, participants gained an understanding of the concept and forms of Gender Based Violence, the legal framework that protects women and girls, and the referral mechanisms available to survivors to access needed services.

The Head of Nahareka Village expressed his appreciation for the training given by Fokupers. He affirmed that this activity is very important for community leaders to understand their role in handling cases of violence that occur in the community.

“This training is very important for us as community leaders of Nahareka Village. Sometimes such cases occur, but people are afraid to speak out, and we are also confused about the process of Gender Based Violence cases and how best to support girls and women in our village,” he said.

He further emphasized that the three-day training provided many benefits to the participants.

“This training helps us understand the process of Gender Based Violence, the legal framework, and the types of violence, and improve our ability to handle these cases. We will also share the information we received during these three days to the community so that more people understand the importance of preventing violence,” he added.

Through this training, Fokupers hopes that community leaders can be at the forefront of creating a safe environment for women and girls and ensure that survivors of Gender Based Violence have access to appropriate services through available referral mechanisms.

This training activity was funded by the Gabinete de Apoio à Sociedade Civil (GASC).
