Namolesso, 06 June 2026 – Fokupers continues to show its commitment to strengthen the role of fathers in the family, through the sixth session of the “Fathers for Change” Program, which involved 15 couples in Namolesso Village, Lequidoe Administrative Post, Aileu Municipality.

This activity provides space for mothers and fathers to learn together and share experiences about the importance of family support during pregnancy, childbirth, and after the baby is born. Through interactive discussions, participants deepened their understanding of how father involvement can positively impact maternal and child health and well-being.

During the session, participants also practice breathing techniques that can help mothers prepare for childbirth. In addition, fathers are encouraged to understand the different forms of emotional and practical support they can provide to their partners during pregnancy and childbirth. This activity aims to raise awareness that a father’s role is not only as a breadwinner, but also as an active companion who provides care, support, and a sense of security to the family.

In addition to learning about maternal and child health, the activity also included a “Play and Learning” session, which encouraged parents to support their children’s development through play and positive interactions. This session gives parents the opportunity to understand the importance of their involvement in their child’s development from an early age.

In this situation, the activity is increased by various music and dance activities involving parents and children. These activities not only provide entertainment but also strengthen emotional bonds within the family and support children’s healthy social and emotional development.

Through the “Fathers for Change” Program, Fokupers strives to strengthen the role of fathers in family caregiving and promote a strong, healthy, and supportive family environment. The presence and involvement of fathers in family life are important factors that contribute to the well-being of mothers and children, while also creating a solid foundation for children’s future development.

The sixth session was facilitated by Sra. Lucia Fátima da Silva and Mr. Silveiro da Silva de Araújo, who helped the participants in discussions and various practical activities throughout the activity.

The “Father for Change” program is funded by Misereor with technical support from The Asia Foundation – Nabilan and NGO HAMNASA, as part of a joint effort to strengthen family well-being and promote more equitable and inclusive parenting in Timor-Leste.
