Anhapi Bisoni: From Small Savings to Big Dreams
In 2025, a journey full of hope began in Oecusse when 29 members (14 women and 15 men) formed the Anhapi Bisoni savings group through the EU-funded Promotion of Women through Economic Empowerment and Law (POWER) Project, facilitated by the EU. With a common goal in mind, they began to build economic independence through small monthly savings of $2–$10.
Within a year, the group raised $2,376.50 that was transparently managed and used for low-interest loans that support members small businesses and education goals. Instead of sharing the profits, members reinvest the funds as seed capital for their long-term goal of establishing a cooperative.
The impact is already visible. Members have started businesses such as kiosks, animal husbandry, food vending and collectively, they grow crops such as corn, soybeans, and vegetables, and produce handmade items including clothing, bags, and sweets that are sold at local events.
“It used to be difficult to meet our daily needs. By belonging to this groupgroup, we learned financial management, life skills, and how to run a small business,” Agustinho a group leader shared.
Built on strong solidarity, the group continues to grow and expand its activities.
“We are looking forward to increasing production capacity, including purchasing equipment such as ovens and mixers for our candy business,” Marcos shared
The group also expects to continue to receive mentorship and refresher training from FEEO, Fokupers, and World Vision to strengthen members’ skills and knowledge.
As a sign of appreciation, the group would like to thank the European Union, FEEO, Fokupers, and World Vision for their continued support.
Anhapi Bisoni journey shows that lasting change starts small—save together, learn together, and grow together.
