Aileu, 12-13 May 2026; Fokupers conducted training on “Gender Equality, Gender Based Violence (GBV) for Community Leadership to support the Referral Network system” for 28 young (13 women and 15 men) in Fahisoi Village, Lequidoe Administrative Post, Aileu Municipality.
The training aims to increase community leaders and young people’s understanding of the concept of Gender Equality and Gender Based Violence (GBV), while also strengthening their ability to provide support to victims of violence through referral networks at the community level.
In addition to providing training in counseling to support victims or individuals affected by GBV. The goal of the trainingis to strengthen local leadership and youth’s role as protectors of communities and to offer a safe and friendly space for people who have experienced GBV.
The training was conducted in a participatory manner through various interactive methods such as group discussions, case studies, and role-play simulations. This approach allows participants to better understand real-world situations occurring in their communities while also practicing skills to respond appropriately and sensitively to instances of violence.
During the training, the Head of Fahisoi Village, Senora Eugenia Ramos Fatima, expressed her appreciation to FOKUPERS for its commitment to raise public awareness on the issue of gender-based violence.
“We are very grateful to FOKUPERS because the information you provide is very important. We think that changing public knowledge in the short term is difficult, but little by little, change will happen.”
Through this activity, it is expected that participants will become agents of change in their respective communities and strengthen collaboration in the referral network system, to provide better protection and support to victims of GBV.
This program is supported by Misereor.
