Aileu, 23 May 2026 – Fokupers continued its fifth session of the “Father of Change” Program with 15 couples in Namolesso Village, Lequidoe Administrative Post, Aileu Municipality. The program aims to strengthen men’s role in supporting reproductive health, building healthy family relationships, and creating a peaceful and violence-free family environment.

In this fifth session, the focus is on “Supporting Pregnant Mothers.” The discussion centred on the importance of male involvement during pregnancy, including accompanying partners to Antenatal Care (ANC) visits and providing physical and emotional support to pregnant women.

Throughout the session, participants discussed the different responsibilities and roles of men in ensuring the health of mothers and babies. Topics covered include the importance of creating an environment free of violence, ensuring good nutrition, providing emotional support, adequate rest for pregnant women, and preparing for labor and baby birth.

Through drama activities and group discussions, participants learned that the presence and involvement of men during pregnancy has a significant positive impact on maternal comfort and health. Men also learned about the importance of sharing household chores, accompanying their partners during antenatal care visits, and making shared decisions to prevent health risks for the mother and baby.

The activity, “Anti-Natal Clinic(ANC) Visit,” helped couples understand the benefits of regular prenatal check-ups. Participants understood that the presence of men during ANC visits not only supported the mother emotionally but also helped couples understand the health of the mother and baby and better prepare for childbirth.

Through the “Father for Change” program, Fokupers continues to encourage men’s active participation in reproductive health and family care as part of efforts to build healthy, harmonious, and violence-free families.

In addition to activities for couples, Fokupers also provides learning activities through play with children to give parents space to actively participate. Fifteen children actively participated, learning the values of equality, mutual respect, and living without violence from an early age.

This session was facilitated by Senora. Lucia Fatima da Silva and Mr. Silveiro da Silva de Araujo.

The program is funded by Misereor with technical support from The Asia Foundation – Nabilan and NGO HAMNASA.
