Namolesso, June 26, 2026 – Fokupers continues its “Father of Change” Program holding its 9th session involving 15 couples in Namolesso village, Lequidoe Administrative Post, Aileu Municipality.
This session, focused on “Family Planning,” aimed to increase women’s and men’s understanding of reproductive health, the importance of communication between partners, and sharing responsibility in decision-making about family planning.
Through this session, participants were encouraged to reflect on the benefits of family planning and the importance of effective communication in their relationships. In addition, they receive accurate information about family planning.
This activity was facilitated by the health personnel at the Namolesso Health Center, Midwife Sofia da Costa Mendonça, who explained the various family planning methods, including their benefits, advantages, and considerations to choose the best method for each family’s needs. Participants also had the opportunity to discuss and ask questions directly with health personnel.
In the participatory setting, participants engaged in interactive discussions and group exercises that encouraged sharing reflection on the importance of open communication between couples. Through these activities, participants discussed the benefits of family planning and how shared decision-making can contribute to maternal and child health, family economic stability, and household well-being.
The “Fathers of Change” program continues to encourage men’s active involvement in family issues, reproductive health, and equal parenting. By engaging women and men together, the program aims to build healthier, more harmonious, and mutually supportive family relationships.
In addition, Fokupers also provides playful learning activities with children to give parents space to actively participate. Fifteen children actively participated, learning the values of equality, mutual respect, and living without violence from an early age.
Key Messages:
Family planning is a shared responsibility between women and men. Through good communication and access to accurate information, families can make responsible decisions about the number of children, timing, delivery and space between children, for the health and well-being of all family members.
The program is funded by Misereor with technical support from The Asia Foundation – Nabilan and NGO HAMNASA.
