Aileu, 14 May 2026 – Fokupers conducted training on the Prevention of Gender Based Violence (GBV) to 37 young people (18 women and 19 men), in Fahisoi Village, Liquidoe Administrative Post, Aileu Municipality.

This activity aims to increase young people’s understanding of the concept of GBV, its impacts, and steps to prevent violence in the family and community.

Through this workshop, participants were encouraged to understand that GBV not only impacts victims physically, but also affects their mental health, social relationships, and community. Youth are also encouraged to recognize different forms of violence and understand the importance of creating an environment that is safe, respectful, and free from discrimination.

Fokupers believes that young people play an important role in preventing GBV. Therefore, this workshop serves as a learning platform for young people to become active agents of change to promote gender equality and a culture against violence in the family and community.

In the opening session, Fahisoi Village Chief, Senora. Eugenia Ramos Fatima, encouraged all participants to take this activity seriously and use this opportunity to build a safer society and to respect human rights.

She also stressed that young people have a significant responsibility to end the cycle of violence and strengthen respect for the rights of women, children, and other vulnerable groups.

Participants also discussed simple steps they can take in their daily lives to prevent violence, such as fostering healthy, respectful communication, and having the courage to report acts of violence in their communities.

This activity was implemented with financial support from Misereor, as part of a collaborative effort to raise public awareness and encourage active participation of young people to prevent GBV in Timor-Leste.
